چکیده

This paper presents the results of Power To Melt and Maneuverability (P2M) Simulation Exercise on past fuel melting irradiation experiments, organized within Organisation for Economic Co-operation Development/Nuclear Energy Agency Framework IrraDiation ExperimentS (FIDES) framework by Core Group (CEA, EDF, SCK‧CEN) open to all FIDES members. The exercise consisted in simulating two power ramps where was detected: (1) xM3 staircase transient [ramp terminal level (RTL) 70 kW‧m−1, average burnup 27 GWd‧tU−1], carried out 2005 R2 reactor at Studsvik (Sweden), rodlet maintained its integrity, (2) HBC4 fast (RTL 66 48 GWd‧tU−1), 1987 BR2 SCK‧CEN (Belgium), cladding failed during experiment. joined 13 organizations from 9 countries using 11 different performance codes. In this paper, main are presented compared available postirradiation examinations (PIE) or on-line measurements (fuel clad diameters, rod elongation, pellet-clad gap, fission gas release). Since focus is assessment, determination boundary between melted/nonmelted consequent definition a radius PIE first discussed. During ramp, predicted most codes despite differences models. Higher discrepancies were observed that can be attributed partly uncertainty limited capability models describe partial ramp. Finally, possible code developments improve simulation presented.

Investigation of Melting by Molecular Dynamics Simulation

The melting of a 64 ion microcrystal of KCI was studied by means of a molecular dynamics computer simulation. We used a central pair interaction with an inverse power law repulsion. The thermodynamics, kinetic and structural properties such as melting temperature, latent heat, mean square displacement, diffusion constant, radial distribution function and bond angle distribution are calculated. ...

Molecular Dynamics Simulation of the Melting Process in Au15Ag40 Nanoalloys

In this study the operations of melting of Au15Ag40 nanoalloy have been studied using the molecular dynamic simulations through the Gupta multiparticle potential and the nonergodicity of simulations is eliminated by the multiple histogram method. The melting characteristics are determined by the analysis of variations in the potential energy. The calculations indicate that the melting of Au15Ag...

Near-solidus Melting of the Shallow Upper Mantle: Partial Melting Experiments on Depleted Peridotite

We present the results of melting experiments on a moderately depleted peridotite composition (DMM1) at 10 kbar and 1250±1390 C. Specially designed experiments demonstrate that liquids extracted into aggregates of vitreous carbon spheres maintained chemical contact with the bulk charge down to melt fractions of 0 02±0 04 and approached equilibrium closely. With increasing melt fraction, SiO2, F...

Melting curve of materials: theory versus experiments

A number of melting curves of various materials have recently been measured experimentally and calculated theoretically, but the agreement between different groups is not always good. We discuss here some of the problems which may arise in both experiments and theory. We also report the melting curves of Fe and Al calculated recently using quantum mechanics techniques, based on density function...

Simulation of ice-sheet melting

A simple model is presented where the temperature, extent and thickness of sea ice is predicted in a numerical simulation. The model is based on Newton’s law of cooling with added terms to account for black-body emission by the ice and solar and atmospheric radiation. The ice is assumed to be an ellipsoid, with the temperature being uniform throughout. Coupled equations are developed for the te...
